Weerawila Reservoir - The place of inexplicable beauty in Hambantota.
Sri Lanka was known as the granary of the East a long time ago. Many kings who ruled the country contributed at the maximum level to strengthen the system of irrigation of the country. Therefore Sri Lanka had a wonderful system of irrigation which helped convert Sri Lanka into prosperous paddy lands.
Among the number of famous reservoirs in Sri Lanka, there are some reservoirs that we have paid less attention. Eventhough they got lack of attention, the service of these reservoirs cannot be underestimated.
Weerawila reservoir is one such reservoir which provides immense service for agriculture cultivating approximately 1965 acres as well as its pictorial views present inexplicable beauty.
Weerawila reservoir is the biggest reservoir in Tissamaharama area. It is fed by Kirindi Oya. This reservoir was reconstructed during the period of Governor Sir Hugh Clifford.
The Hambantota-Wellawaya road runs on a causeway across the large Weerawila reservoir.
The surrounding of the Weerawila reservoir is a best destination for bird watching in the morning.
