Madol Duwa


Koggala is a small town located in Galle in Southern province in SriLanka. It is one of the popular tourist attractions due to many reasons. Koggala is the home of the great scholar, author Mr. Martin Wickramasinhe and the house he was born and the whole huge land of the garden premises are considered a cultural and literal museum. 

Koggala town has its own cultural values, customs and folks unique to this place. Visitors can enjoy the boat trips in koggala lagoon and it is full of bio diversity. Koggala is a perfect place for bird watching.

Madol Duwa island in Koggala is another island which became famous through the Madol Duwa book. This novel was written by the famous author Martin Wickramasinhe. He was identified as a most renowned writer in late 20th century. The story was woven around Upali, Jinna and their friends. Their struggle to success their lives in the deserted island named Madol Duwa is elaborated through the story. It was made into a film in 1976 too.
