Seethawaka Wet Zone Botanical Garden
Seethawaka wet zone botanical garden is one of the coolest leisure spots located in Illukowita, between Puwakpitiya and Labugama close to Awissawella. The constructions of the garden commenced in 2008 but it was opened to the public in October 2014.
The main objective of Seethawaka wet zone botanical garden is to function as a rescue centre to conserve the highly threatened wet lowland forest flora of the country.
The garden also provides opportunities for eco-tourism and economic development of the area. The garden consists of 106 acres (43 hectares) with a tea plantation, an extensive threatened plant collection, a herbal garden and floriculture area. This garden will feature the lesser known and underutilised plants in the wet zone, promote the herbal industry and impart education and provide training on botany and floriculture for the general public.
Not only the worthiness of the biodiversity of the garden, it also a super destination that leads to tranquillity. The lush green of the surrounding, the crystal clear ponds, charming and sweet smelling rose gardens, shady trees will be the amazing views to be witnessed. So, you will be able to either stroll around this wonderful park or hire an electric golf cart from the entrance. You can also have a boat ride here as well. The park authorities also have provided facilities such as canteens, sanitary facilities etc.
