Nelligala International Buddhist Centre
Nelligala Buddhist International Centre is situated in Muruthalawa, on the top of the Nelligala mountain in Kandy, Central province. It was constructed in the latter part of the the year 2014 with the immense support of the Buddhist devotees.
If you travel from Kandy it takes nearly 40 minutes to reach Nelligala (12km from Kandy). The temple is located in a mesmerizing location which helps the devotees to see the most sacred religious place 'The Adam'm peak' and many other beautiful mountain ranges such as Hanthana, Hunnasgiriya, Pidurutalagala, Aadawela mountain range in Kurunegala, Alagalla, Batalegala and Knuckles reserve etc.
The most significant place of the Nelligala International Buddhist Centre is Sri Shakya Singhe Incense room or Sri Shakya Singhe Sugandha Kutiya. The sacred and venerated relics of Lord Buddha are stored in a huge, decorated golden casket. The architectural style of this temple is unique. The walls of the entrance to the Sri Shakya Singhe Incense room are painted with the Hastha Mudra or the hand gestures of the Lord Buddha. There are two doors which named Deva Dwara and Brahma Dwara. Deva Dwara has decorated with the paintings of Gods and Goddesses and Brhma Dwara has decorated with Brahmas.
Sri Shakya Singhe Maha stupa is about 75 feet in height and it was built within 90 days. The emergence of the seven golden Buddha statues (sath budhu) is another major highlight in this temple.
The daily religious pooja for the sacred relics of this temple is practiced at 5.30a.m., 10a.m. and 7p.m respectively everyday.
